Vanuatu - Philippines relations

The Philippines and Vanuatu established cordial bilateral diplomatic relations in 1986 to forge stronger and closer ties between the two countries. Pursuing bilateral and multilateral cooperation in diverse sectors, both countries consider cooperation vital and beneficial in such fields as culture, defense, tourism, trade and investments, science and technology, security, and other areas.The Philippines is the most important source market for tourism in Vanuatu and to date more than 130 ni-Vanuatu students have been granted scholarships to pursue higher education in the Philippines, thereby contributing to Vanuatu's education objectives under the Vanuatu National Sustainable Development Plan 2016 - 2030.

There are currently more than 300 Filipinos residing in Vanuatu and actively contributing to the skilled labour market. On the occasion of Vanuatu’s National Day in 2023, the Philippines committed to its continued cooperation with Vanuatu to advance shared goals of stability, security and prosperity in the region. To this effect, both countries are cooperating to resolve global issues like climate change, piracy, terrorism, and cybersecurity.
